At AmanaCare, we believe that love is the job—and we’re here to make sure the paycheck follows. Through Nebraska’s Legally Responsible Individual (LRI) Personal Care program, family members who provide daily, hands-on care to a loved one with a disability or chronic illness may now qualify to receive Medicaid pay for the care they’re already giving.
Whether you’re in North Platte, Kearney, Scottsbluff, Omaha, or Lincoln, AmanaCare is here to guide families through the LRI personal care eligibility process. As a faith-based, Nebraska-rooted home care agency, we provide compassionate support and expert oversight to those navigating the Nebraska disability services system.
What Is the LRI Program?
The LRI (Legally Responsible Individual) Personal Care Program allows:
- Parents of minor children with disabilities
- Spouses of adults with disabilities
…to be employed as paid caregivers when the level of care provided exceeds what’s normally expected in a household. The goal? Keep families together, provide personal care at home, and recognize the essential work that family caregivers already do.
Who Qualifies?
To be eligible for LRI personal care, families must:
- Be on Medicaid or apply through iServe Nebraska or a local DHHS office
- Work with a Service Coordinator (e.g., Area Agency on Aging or League of Human Dignity)
- Complete the state’s DD-26 assessment showing that the care qualifies as “Extraordinary Care”
- Receive approval for a set number of care hours (up to 40 hours per week)
The program is agency-directed, meaning a qualified provider like AmanaCare oversees caregiver training, compliance, and ongoing support.
Why Choose AmanaCare?
As an officially approved agency for the LRI Program in North Platte and across the state, AmanaCare offers:
- Starting pay of $21/hour and up
