AmanaCare North Platte spreads kindness with Halloween visits, faith-based care, and support for families through Medicaid waiver and LRI caregiver programs.

Spreading Kindness & Connection in North Platte This Fall

This year, as Halloween approached, our North Platte team wanted to do something a little different — something rooted in kindness, surprise, and connection.

So, in the days leading up to October 31st, Sara Schroeder (Care Coordinator & Scheduler for North Platte) and Heather Schanou (Director of Marketing) hit the road with bags full of seasonal treats and uplifting surprises for clients receiving home care North Platte, home care assistance North Platte, in home care North Platte, and home health care North Platte through AmanaCare.

Some stops included supervisory check-ins (Sara-approved ✅), and others included furry-friend pop-ins (which Heather was maybe just a little too excited about 🐾). But every visit had the same goal:

To remind our clients they are seen, valued, and loved.

A Little History — And a Twist

Halloween trick-or-treating is believed to have roots in community kindness — when neighbors shared food and small gifts to bring good cheer. We wanted to return to that original spirit, focusing less on tricks and more on treats of the heart.

Our client gift bags included:

  • Candy (including sugar-free options 🍬)
  • Adult puzzle pages
  • Small Halloween trinkets 🎃
  • Wooden pocket crosses ✝️
(a favorite among many clients this year!)

And the conversations we had with clients were just as meaningful as the goodies. Some were excited to hand out candy.

Others were preparing for Halloween parties or dressing up with grandkids. And several told us they were simply planning to enjoy a quiet evening — maybe a good movie, a cozy blanket, and some rest. 🧡

No matter how they chose to spend the holiday, we were grateful to be a small part of their week.

Honoring and Supporting Families in North Platte

This fall, our North Platte office was humbled to receive Best of 2025 in Home Health Care — an honor made possible because families trust us, speak highly of their experiences, and believe in faith-based care that honors dignity.

But alongside celebrating, we also continue to support families facing daily challenges, especially those caring for loved ones with complex needs at home.

That’s why we continue to share information about the LRI (Legally Responsible Individual) Program, which allows family members to be paid caregivers in Nebraska. Many people find us by searching:

  • “Can I get paid to care for a family member in North Platte?” — And the answer is often yes, when the family qualifies for medicaid waiver home care in North Platte through the Aged & Disabled Waiver.

One mother in Grand Island recently shared her experience, and her words have stayed with us:

“A weight has lifted off of me financially.
I am a single mother of two. My daughter is 16 and requires full-time care, and I donate plasma twice a week just to make ends meet.
Emotionally, oh man… It’s helped tremendously.
I can breathe knowing I don’t have to constantly figure out my next move to survive the month.
We only get our children in our homes for a short time. I can’t wait to make memories with these years we have left.”

This is why we continue to educate families, caregivers, and local organizations — because care should not break a family, and asking for help is not weakness — it’s strength.

If you or someone you know has asked the question, Can I get paid to care for a family member in North Platte?, our team can walk you through every step.

Love, Care, Community — Every Season

Whether it’s Halloween, Thanksgiving, or an ordinary Tuesday, our promise remains the same:

We honor the God-given dignity of those we serve and lead.

North Platte has welcomed AmanaCare with open arms — and we are committed to continuing to show up, give back, celebrate your wins, support your needs, and remind you that you are never alone.

Thank you for allowing us to care for this community we love.
We are grateful — not just in October or November — but all year long. 🧡
