After attending the Nebraska Home Care Conference in October, nearly our entire AmanaCare administrative team gathered together at our Kearney office — and what unfolded was one of those days that reminds us why our work and our team are so special.
For many of us, this was the first time we had been face-to-face in quite a while, or even ever! Our team spans the state — with offices in Kearney, Lincoln, Omaha, Scottsbluff, and North Platte, and staff serving families in smaller surrounding towns as well. Much of our collaboration happens through Zoom, emails, and phone calls. So, when we get the chance to be in the same room, it feels like a family reunion (with work badges, clipboards, and Jimmy John’s sandwiches sprinkled in).
Portrait Day… with a Twist
We gathered for:
- Individual staff portraits
- Team and department photos
- One big all-of-us group picture
The photographer actually had to stand on top of a conference table to get the perfect shot of the full group — we were packed in shoulder-to-shoulder, layered in carefully pressed outfits, even though the October sun decided to feel more like July that day.
There were laughs, shifting around, a few “Wait— you’re taller than I thought!” moments, and plenty of smiles. Someone said, “I recognize you by your voice more than your face!” And honestly? That’s very real when your coworkers are also your Zoom squares.
“It’s So Nice to Meet You in Person!”
After the photos, everyone mingled around the office:
- Catching up on conference takeaways
- Telling stories about life experiences
- Taking selfies
- And enjoying the rare chance to be together without a computer screen in between
Some of us slipped into offices to answer emails (because in home care never fully pauses), while most of us stayed in the common space — chatting, laughing, learning more about each other’s families, hobbies, and lives outside of the office.
It felt warm, genuine, community-centered — the exact same values we bring to the families we support through medicaid waiver home care Kearney, home care Kearney, and home care assistance Kearney services every day.
A Gas Station Goodbye
As the afternoon wrapped up, several of us coincidentally ended up at the same gas station near the interstate — grabbing a pop, road trip snacks, and giving one more round of hugs and “Drive safe” before pointing our cars in different directions across Nebraska.
It was the perfect ending.
Why This Day Mattered
Whether we’re coordinating in home care Kearney, working with families asking “How do we navigate home health care Kearney?”, or walking someone step-by-step through Medicaid waiver processes — our strength comes from the relationships behind the work.
This day reminded us:
- We are not just coworkers
- We are collaborators in something meaningful
- We are part of a mission that matters
And being together makes us better at caring for the communities we serve.
At AmanaCare, we believe the heart of care begins with connection — with clients, caregivers, and one another.
This day in Kearney didn’t just give us photos for the website…
It gave us momentum.
It gave us joy.
It reminded us that we are a team — and a pretty great one.
