Power Partner Spotlight: Aging Ally – Helping Families Navigate Healthcare with Confidence

Aging Ally & AmanaCare: Navigating Healthcare Together

At AmanaCare, we believe that caring for individuals and families often takes more than just one service or one organization. That’s why we value partnerships with organizations that share our mission, our values, and our heart for serving people well. This month, we are proud to feature Aging Ally as one of our Power Partners.

The Hidden Challenge Many Families Face When Navigating Healthcare

For many families, there comes a moment when healthcare suddenly becomes complicated.

It might start with a new diagnosis, a hospitalization, or simply the realization that a parent’s medical needs are becoming harder to manage. Suddenly, there are multiple doctors, medications, appointments, insurance questions, and decisions that feel overwhelming.

Adult children often find themselves stepping into a role they never expected — trying to coordinate care for a parent while also managing their own families, careers, and responsibilities.

Families often start asking questions like:

  • Are we asking the right questions at appointments?
  • How do we keep track of all these medications and instructions?
  • Why are different doctors telling us different things?
  • How do we know we’re making the right decisions?

The truth is, the healthcare system can be difficult to navigate, even for people who are very organized and proactive. Many families feel like they are trying to figure everything out while also dealing with worry, uncertainty, and emotional stress.

Families Often Feel Like They Are Managing Healthcare Alone

Doctors and nurses work hard to provide excellent medical care, but families are often left responsible for coordinating everything around that care. This may include:

  • Understanding complex medical information
  • Managing communication between multiple providers
  • Organizing medications and treatment plans
  • Preparing for medical appointments
  • Navigating insurance questions
  • Helping aging parents understand their options
  • Making decisions during stressful health situations

For adult children helping aging parents, especially those who live in another city or state, the responsibility can quickly become overwhelming.

This is where many families begin looking for guidance and support.

A Role Many Families Don’t Know Exists

What many people don’t realize is that there are professionals whose role is to help families navigate healthcare. This is exactly what Aging Ally does.

Aging Ally provides RN-guided healthcare advocacy and navigation services for adults and their families. Rather than replacing medical providers, Aging Ally helps families better understand and coordinate the care they are already receiving.

This may include:

  • Helping families understand diagnoses and treatment options
  • Preparing questions before provider visits
  • Organizing medical information and care plans
  • Supporting communication between providers and families
  • Navigating insurance questions and healthcare systems
  • Helping families plan for next steps during major health transitions

Sometimes families only need a consultation to help them get oriented. Other times, they benefit from ongoing support while navigating more complex healthcare journeys.

A Mission Rooted in Faith and Service

One of the reasons AmanaCare and Aging Ally work so well together is that we share similar values and a similar mission. Both organizations are faith-based, Nebraska-focused organizations whose goal is to walk alongside individuals and families during difficult and uncertain times.

Aging Ally describes their mission as walking alongside individuals and families navigating healthcare with advocacy, compassion, and faith. Their vision is to create a community where every adult feels supported, informed, and empowered in their healthcare journey — ensuring dignity, clarity, and peace of mind for individuals and families.

Their story is also deeply personal. Aging Ally was founded after their family navigated the overwhelming complexities of healthcare when a loved one was diagnosed with cancer. That experience didn’t just shape their mission — it became their mission. They now use that experience to help other families who feel scared, uncertain, and responsible for someone they love.

How AmanaCare and Aging Ally Work Together

AmanaCare provides non-medical in-home care services that help individuals remain safe and comfortable in their homes. Aging Ally helps families understand and navigate the medical and healthcare side of the journey.

Together, these services complement each other beautifully:

  • Aging Ally helps families understand healthcare decisions and coordinate medical care.
  • AmanaCare helps individuals remain safe at home with daily care, companionship, and support.
  • Both organizations focus on dignity, compassion, and supporting the entire family.

When families have both guidance through the healthcare system and support in the home, they often feel less overwhelmed and more confident in the decisions they are making.

No Family Should Have to Figure Everything Out Alone

Caring for someone you love can feel overwhelming, but families do not have to do it alone. Organizations like Aging Ally and AmanaCare exist to walk alongside families, provide guidance, offer support, and help individuals live safely and with dignity.

We are grateful for our partnership with Aging Ally and the work they are doing to support families across Nebraska.
