At AmanaCare, we believe that honoring those who served our country extends far beyond holidays and ceremonies. It means showing up, providing resources, building relationships, and ensuring that veterans and their families have access to the support they need every day.

Recently, AmanaCare was honored to participate as a vendor at the Veterans Stand Down event in Gering, Nebraska. This five-hour event brought together veterans, community organizations, healthcare providers, volunteers, and advocates with one shared mission: supporting veterans who may be experiencing homelessness or who are considered at-risk.

Throughout the day, veterans had access to a wide variety of valuable services and resources, including food, clothing, health screenings, housing assistance, employment resources, substance use treatment information, mental health counseling, free haircuts, educational opportunities, and a complimentary lunch. Most importantly, the event served as an opportunity to honor and recognize the sacrifices made by those who have served our nation.

The Veterans Stand Down event is a powerful example of what can happen when communities come together to support veterans in meaningful ways. AmanaCare was proud to be among the many organizations present to share information about in-home care services available to veterans and their families.

Helping Veterans Remain Independent at Home

Many veterans are unaware that they may qualify for in-home care services through programs offered by the Veterans Administration. As a participating provider within the VA’s Community Care Network, AmanaCare is able to assist veterans throughout Nebraska in accessing services that promote independence, dignity, and quality of life at home.

Veterans may be eligible for in-home care through several VA programs, including:

• VA Aid and Attendance or Housebound Benefits
• Veteran-Directed Care
• Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers
• Homemaker and Home Health Aide Care

Our team can help veterans and their families navigate available options and connect them with the resources that best meet their needs.

Homemaker Services Designed to Support Veterans

AmanaCare’s homemaker services for veterans can include:

• Light housekeeping and laundry
• Meal planning and preparation
• Medication reminders
• Friendly companionship and social engagement
• Transportation and accompaniment to appointments
• Light pet care
• Assistance with errands and community involvement

These services allow veterans to maintain their independence while continuing to live safely and comfortably in their own homes.

Understanding the VA Community Care Network

The VA Community Care Network expands healthcare options for veterans by allowing eligible individuals to receive services from approved community providers when care is not readily available through VA facilities.

This network includes a wide range of services, such as in-home care, rehabilitation, routine healthcare, and specialty services. Eligibility is determined by the veteran’s VA healthcare team.

The program reflects the VA’s ongoing commitment to ensuring veterans have access to flexible, comprehensive care options that meet their individual needs.

Additional Benefits May Be Available

Some veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for the VA Aid and Attendance Pension Benefit, which provides additional financial assistance for individuals who require help with activities of daily living or are housebound.

Veterans receiving a VA pension may qualify if they:

• Need assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or eating
• Spend much of the day confined to bed because of illness
• Reside in a nursing facility due to physical or cognitive limitations
• Have significant vision impairments

Housebound benefits may also be available for veterans who spend the majority of their time at home due to a permanent disability.
