We are thrilled to introduce Flavia Previtali as our new Bilingual Care Coordinator at AmanaCare! In this vital role, Flavia will be coordinating care for our Spanish-speaking clients and supervising our Spanish-speaking caregivers, ensuring they feel comfortable, understood, and supported.
Flavia brings an impressive background in psychology, nonprofit leadership, and advocacy for underserved communities. Her deep understanding of cultural connections and dedication to helping those in need will be invaluable as she fosters strong relationships and helps us provide compassionate care.
Flavia’s Story
Born in Geneva, Switzerland, Flavia entered the world as a premature baby, battling a severe illness that doctors believed she wouldn’t survive. While her mother prepared for the worst, her father—rooted in his Catholic faith—refused to give up on her. He fought for her life, researching treatments and advocating for her to receive experimental therapy. Against all odds, Flavia survived, spending a full year in the hospital before growing into the resilient and compassionate person she is today.
Flavia’s multicultural background shaped her perspective. With a Norwegian mother and a Uruguayan father, she spent her childhood in Uruguay, attending British schools and spending weekends on a ranch—a lifestyle that ignited her lifelong love for horses. For her fifth birthday, she chose a pony over a party, a decision that sparked a lifelong passion for equine therapy.
A Life Dedicated to Helping Others
Flavia earned her degree in Psychology in Uruguay in 1998 and later became a certified horse therapist, integrating equine-assisted coaching into her counseling practice. She has worked extensively in healthcare, maternal and child health, trauma-informed care, and counseling for at-risk populations across South, Central, and North America.
Driven by her commitment to addressing social disparities, Flavia founded multiple nonprofit organizations in Uruguay, including:
- Casa Lunas, supporting teenage parents
- Instituto Perinatal del Uruguay, providing maternal and child health education and research
- The first free-standing birth center for low-income families, a project she led with the First Lady of Uruguay—a moment captured in media interviews.
After moving to the U.S., Flavia continued her advocacy for Hispanic communities, working in grant writing, horse therapy for veterans and children with special needs, and clinical counseling for unaccompanied minors at the Texas-Mexico border. She relocated to Omaha, NE, in 2023 to work with the Office of Refugee Resettlement, helping reunify children with their families through post-release services, counseling, and case management.
A Personal Calling to AmanaCare
In 2024, Flavia experienced profound loss when her father, her rock and mentor, passed away after years of physical and mental decline. She had devoted the last two and a half years to his care, striving to give back the love, faith, and resilience he had instilled in her. His passing ultimately led her to AmanaCare, where she hopes to honor his legacy by serving others with dignity, compassion, and faith.
Flavia is happily married with three wonderful grown children and a baby in Heaven. She continues to live by the faith her father taught her and brings that same dedication to her work at AmanaCare.
We are honored to have Flavia on our team, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact she will bring to our clients and caregivers.
Welcome, Flavia!
