What’s New in North Platte? Smiling & Serving Our Community Well

If you’ve ever wondered what makes the AmanaCare North Platte office special, the answer is simple: we truly enjoy the people we serve and the caregivers who make it all possible.

Last month on Valentine’s Day, we hosted an open house for our caregivers and clients — and it was everything we hoped it would be.

There were sliders, meatballs, taco dip, and Valentine’s Day Chex mix. We set up a festive drink station with pink lemonade, cranberry juice, sparkling strawberry water, Sprite, and all the garnishments — lemons and cherries included. It felt less like an “event” and more like a gathering of friends.

Heather, Ashley, and Sara even set up cornhole outside of the office — and not a single attendee passed it up. Every person who walked in tossed a few bags. The competition was friendly, the laughter was loud, and the prizes were worth playing for.

We lined the hallway with gift bags filled with goodies, and prizes were awarded based on points earned during the games. One of our favorites? Keith received heart-shaped pasta in his prize bag and announced he was planning a romantic Valentine’s dinner for one. That alone was worth the setup.

There were hugs.

There were stories.

There were second helpings.

And most importantly, there was a connection.

More Than an Office — A Part of North Platte

Events like this reflect who we are.

AmanaCare North Platte is proud to be North Platte’s only faith-based, Nebraska-owned, and operated home care team. We are not a franchise. We are not part of a national chain. Decisions are made here in Nebraska, by Nebraskans, for Nebraskans.

Our owners, Kathleen Horsely and Erich Nickman, were both born and raised in Nebraska. Their vision for faith-based, dignity-centered home care continues to guide everything we do across the state — including right here in North Platte.

And our local team? We live here. We work here. Our families are here.

  • Heather Schanou serves as Marketing Director and calls North Platte home.
  • Sara Yates is part of our Scheduling team and is deeply connected in the community through her kids and their activities.
  • Ashley Huffman serves as Care Coordinator and walks alongside families every day as they navigate care decisions.

We shop in the same stores. We attend the same churches. Our kids go to school here. We’re invested — not just professionally, but personally.

Care That Feels Personal

When you choose a Nebraska-owned company, you’re choosing:

  • Local leadership
  • Local accountability
  • Community involvement
  • Faith-rooted values
  • A team that understands rural Nebraska life

We believe home care should feel like neighbors helping neighbors — because that’s exactly what it is.

Whether it’s hosting a Valentine’s open house, supporting caregivers with appreciation events, or helping families navigate aging, disability, or veteran services, we are committed to showing up well.

North Platte isn’t just another dot on a corporate map.

It’s home.

And we’re honored to serve it.
