Honoring Mary, Amilio, and Angelo as July Caregivers of the Month
This month, we are honored to recognize not one, but three extraordinary carers as our July Caregivers of the Month: Mary, Amilio, and Angelo, a remarkable family from northeast Nebraska who provide around-the-clock care for their beloved son and brother, Alex.
A Life Surrounded by Love
At just 24 years old, Alex faces significant health challenges, including traumatic brain injury and seizures. He is nonverbal and wheelchair-bound, requiring ongoing support and assistance throughout each day. Yet despite these challenges, those who know Alex describe him in the most beautiful way possible.
“Alex is pure joy, full of sunshine, and the sweetest soul you’ll ever meet.”
Anyone who spends time with this family quickly realizes that Alex is surrounded by something incredibly powerful: unconditional love.
A Family Caregiving Team Built on Faith and Support
As Alex’s mother, Mary has dedicated herself to ensuring her son never faces life’s challenges alone. Alongside his brothers, Amilio and Angelo, this family works together as a caregiving team, providing not only physical care but also companionship, encouragement, advocacy, and unwavering support.
Mary says, “Faith stands for Forwarding All Issues To Heaven.” As a caregiver, Mary promises to help her son face every obstacle with her right by his side—a promise she lives out every single day.
The love this family shares extends far beyond meeting daily care needs. They have created a life filled with connection, community, dignity, and joy for Alex. Their commitment serves as a powerful reminder that caregiving is about so much more than tasks and routines. It is about showing up, offering hope, celebrating victories, and ensuring those we love know they are never alone.
Supporting Family Caregivers Across Nebraska
At AmanaCare, we are blessed to support many families through Nebraska’s Family Caring for Family and Legally Responsible Individual (LRI) programs, which allow eligible family members to become paid caregivers for their loved ones. Families like Mary, Amilio, and Angelo demonstrate the incredible impact family caregivers have every day.
Their story reminds us that home care isn’t only for seniors. Home care supports children, young adults, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and people facing a wide variety of health challenges. Most importantly, it helps individuals remain in the comfort of their home, surrounded by the people who love them most.
