At AmanaCare, care doesn’t stay within office walls—it moves with our team, across communities, and into the lives of families who need it most.
While our Omaha office continues to grow, one thing has become increasingly clear:
Families in Omaha and across Southeast Nebraska are looking for support—and many don’t realize what’s available to them.
That’s where the LRI program comes in.
What Is the LRI Program—and Why It Matters
The Legally Responsible Individual (LRI) Program allows certain family members—like parents or spouses—to become paid caregivers for their loved ones when extraordinary care is needed.
It’s a powerful option for families who:
- are already providing full-time care
- want to keep their loved one at home
- need financial support while doing so
And yet, many families in Omaha and Lincoln don’t even know it exists.
Reaching Families Through Community Events
Recently, members of our team attended a Community Resource Fair in Lincoln, hosted by The Arc of Lincoln and Lincoln Public Schools.
While the event took place in Lincoln, the impact reaches far beyond one city.
This event brought together:
- families
- caregivers
- and providers supporting individuals with disabilities
Despite competing with a Nebraska basketball playoff game (which we all know is serious business 😄), attendance was strong—and more importantly, the conversations were meaningful.
At our table, Alicia Brown and Heather Schanou connected with families and shared information about:
- our Family Caring for Family program
- the LRI program
- and flexible in-home care options
These are the kinds of conversations that lead to real change.
From Awareness to Action: Families Taking the Next Step
What’s been especially encouraging is what’s happened after these events.
AmanaCare has recently onboarded multiple families across Southeast Nebraska—including Omaha and Lincoln—into the LRI program.
These are families who:
- were already providing care
- didn’t know support was available
- and are now receiving guidance, structure, and compensation for the care they give every day
That’s the ripple effect of community presence.
One conversation leads to awareness.
Awareness leads to action.
And action leads to support for families who truly need it.
Why Omaha Matters
Our Omaha office plays a key role in this growth.
As one of Nebraska’s largest communities, Omaha is home to many families navigating:
- disability care
- long-term support needs
- and the challenges of caregiving
By staying connected to events, partnerships, and outreach opportunities—whether in Omaha, Lincoln, or surrounding areas—we’re able to ensure that families across the region have access to the resources they deserve.
Meeting Families Where They Are
Not every family is ready to reach out right away.
Sometimes it takes:
- hearing a story
- asking a question at a booth
- or simply learning that a program exists
That’s why events like the Lincoln Community Resource Fair matter.
They create a space where families can explore options without pressure—and begin to see what support could look like for them.
Continuing the Work in Omaha and Beyond
As our Omaha presence continues to grow, so does our commitment to:
- educating families
- building relationships
- and expanding access to programs like LRI
Because no family should feel like they have to figure this out alone.
💙 You May Already Be Doing the Work—Now There May Be Support for It
If you’re caring for a loved one at home in Omaha, Lincoln, or anywhere in Southeast Nebraska, you may qualify for the LRI program.
And if you’re not sure where to start—that’s okay.
We’re here to help.
