The Latest from Lincoln: Showing Up, Giving Back & Looking Ahead

AmanaCare Lincoln community highlights, including senior outreach, Alzheimer’s awareness and Trunk-or-Treat plans

September was a busy month for the AmanaCare Lincoln team, and that’s exactly how we like it. From supporting causes that matter to Nebraska families to connecting seniors with local resources and building relationships throughout the community, our team has been getting out of the office and showing up across Lincoln.

Going Purple for a Purpose

Mikah Christensen, Director of Operations for Lincoln, and Heather Schanou, Director of Marketing, attended Purple for a Purpose at Cedarhurst of Lincoln on September 10.

The fundraiser brought the community together in support of the Alzheimer’s Association, with activities throughout the day including coffee and pastries, watercolor flower crafts, ice cream floats, bingo, and lemonade and refreshments. A silent auction and mystery donation bags also helped raise funds for the cause. Heather got a Nebraska door sign!

For AmanaCare, supporting events like Purple for a Purpose is especially meaningful. Our caregivers and local teams regularly work alongside individuals and families whose lives have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Opportunities to support awareness, education and resources for those families are close to our hearts.

Cedarhurst of Lincoln provides both assisted living and memory care, and the organization also participates nationally in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Cedarhurst Living

Connecting at the 4th Annual Senior Expo

The following day, Mikah was joined by BreeAnn Osborne, Care Coordinator for Lincoln, and Jenny Laschanzky, COO, at the 4th Annual Senior Expo at Salt Creek Senior Living.

The free community event was designed to connect seniors with local resources—making it a natural fit for AmanaCare. Salt Creek itself offers independent living, assisted living and memory care in Lincoln. Dial Senior Living

Events like the Senior Expo give our team an opportunity to do more than talk about home care. They allow us to meet older adults and their families face-to-face, learn more about the resources available throughout Lincoln, and build relationships with other organizations serving the same community.

Those connections matter. When a family comes to AmanaCare with questions, the right answer isn’t always simply home care. The better connected our team is throughout Lincoln, the better equipped we are to help families find the support and resources they need.

Team AmanaCare Hits the Golf Course

Community involvement looked a little different when Erich Nickman, CEO, and Heather Schanou, Director of Marketing, represented Team AmanaCare at the Regnum Christi Golf Tournament.

Between some impressive competition, Erich managed the best drive of his life, while Heather’s short game helped contribute to a couple of birdies. One AmanaCare team also earned tournament placement prizes, with a golfer taking home two flag prizes.

And thanks to matching AmanaCare polos and hats, there was certainly no wondering which team they belonged to!

Beyond the golf, the tournament offered another opportunity to meet people, strengthen relationships, support a great cause and make AmanaCare visible in the community.

Coming October 29: Pumpkins, Sweets, & Trunk-or-Treats!

Next up, we’re trading golf clubs for pumpkins and candy!

AmanaCare Lincoln is teaming up with Endless Journey, Above & Beyond and AgeWise Therapy, with additional community partners potentially joining the fun, for Pumpkins, Sweets, & Trunk-or-Treats!

The community Trunk-or-Treat will be held October 29 from 6–8 p.m. in the AmanaCare Lincoln parking lot.
