Our Kearney team has been on the move! From connecting with older Nebraskans and families to building relationships with local professionals and spending an afternoon at the bowling alley, September offered plenty of opportunities for Team AmanaCare to get involved throughout Central Nebraska.
AmanaCare at the Nebraska State Fair
AmanaCare made an appearance at one of Nebraska’s biggest annual events! Nancy Smolik, Director of Operations; Chelsea Jensen, Authorization and Compliance Coordinator; McKenzie Petersen, Recruiting and Outreach Specialist; and Amber Corbin, Business Development Specialist, represented AmanaCare during Older Nebraskans Day at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island.
Older Nebraskans Day combined plenty of State Fair fun with resources specifically geared toward older adults. The day included a wellness and resource fair, live entertainment and even a performance by KC and the Sunshine Band.
For our team, it was a great opportunity to meet people from communities throughout Nebraska, answer questions about home care and connect with other organizations serving older adults.
And really, when your workday includes the Nebraska State Fair, it’s hard to complain!
Connecting with Kearney’s Aging Community
Closer to home, Nancy and Amber attended a Kearney Aging Coalition meeting, continuing to build relationships with professionals and organizations serving older adults in the area.
Those connections are an important part of what our local teams do. The more we know about the people, programs and resources available within our communities, the better equipped we are to help families find support—even when what they need extends beyond the services AmanaCare provides.
Supporting Families at the Autism Conference
Nancy and Chelsea also represented AmanaCare at the Kids & Dreams Foundation’s 11th Annual Autism Conference on September 11 at the Younes Conference Center in Kearney.
The conference brought together parents, caregivers, teachers, therapists, service providers and advocates who support individuals with autism and their families.
For AmanaCare, participating was especially meaningful because home care isn’t limited to serving older adults. Our teams also support individuals with disabilities and families who may be navigating programs and services that help their loved ones live safely, independently and meaningfully.
Events like this give us an opportunity to listen, learn and make sure families know there are resources available to support them along the way.
Strikes, Spares & Plenty of Smiles
Sometimes community involvement looks a little less like a conference table and a lot more like bowling shoes!
On September 17, Chelsea Jensen, Kathy Quail, Scheduling Coordinator, and Mayra Flores, Receptionist, volunteered with The Arc of Buffalo County’s Buddy Bowling program at The Big Apple in Kearney.
Buddy Bowling is a six-week program that brings together individuals ages six and older with developmental disabilities and volunteers from UNK, Kearney High School and the surrounding community.
Our team was happy to jump in for an afternoon of bowling, encouragement and connection—and probably a few questionable scores.
Programs like Buddy Bowling are a great reminder that being part of a community isn’t always about talking about what AmanaCare does. Sometimes it’s simply about showing up, lending a hand and having some fun alongside the people who call that community home.
From the State Fair to the bowling alley and plenty of places in between, our Kearney team continues to build relationships throughout Central Nebraska—and we love seeing where they’ll show up next.
